Electricity plans are genuinely complicated — time-of-use windows, seasonal rates, daily caps, controlled-load tariffs, VPP terms, promotional credits. Grid Lens models all of this as accurately as we can, but between the growing complexity of some offers, rebates and promotions that don't fit cleanly into a rate model, the odd inaccuracy in how your inverter or meter reports usage, and — being honest — ordinary software bugs on our part, we can't promise the numbers we show will match your actual bill to the cent. Treat Grid Lens as a pointer: it tells you which plans deserve a closer look, not a guarantee of exactly what you'll pay. Always confirm the details that matter to you against the retailer's own price fact sheet before switching.
Grid Lens is a Home Assistant integration and companion API that compares electricity retail plans against your own energy usage, and estimates what you'd pay on alternative plans. All of this runs from data our servers hold about available plans, combined with usage data that stays inside your own Home Assistant instance — see our Privacy Policy for exactly what that involves. Grid Lens does not have any commercial relationship with any electricity retailer, does not receive referral fees, and does not recommend or endorse any particular plan or retailer over another. Nothing on this site or in the integration constitutes financial product advice, and nothing here should be read as a recommendation that you switch to, stay on, or avoid any specific plan — the decision is always yours.
Plan data, rate structures, bill estimates, and any comparison or "savings" figure Grid Lens shows you are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. We make a genuine effort to keep plan data current and correct — including cross-checking against retailers' own published rates and the Australian Energy Regulator's public plan data — but retailers change rates, terms, and eligibility without notice, and some offers (wholesale-linked pricing, VPP credits, stepped rebates, promotional periods) are inherently difficult to model precisely. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we don't guarantee that any estimate, comparison, or projected saving will match your actual bill.
Grid Lens is free to use for comparing your current plan. A paid subscription (billed monthly via Stripe, at the price shown at checkout) unlocks comparison against every available plan for your state. You can cancel your subscription at any time through the Stripe billing portal; see our Refund Policy for what happens to access and billing when you do. We don't store your payment card details — Stripe handles that entirely under its own terms.
Your API key is tied to your Home Assistant installation and is yours alone to use — don't share it or use it outside your own Grid Lens integration. You're responsible for keeping it reasonably secure. We may suspend or revoke access for abuse of the service (including attempts to circumvent tier limits or excessive automated requests), non-payment, or violation of these terms.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy under the Australian Consumer Law (or any other law) that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to that, to the maximum extent permitted by law: Grid Lens is provided without any guarantee that switching plans based on our estimates will save you money, and we aren't liable for any indirect, consequential, or special loss arising from your use of the service or reliance on any figure it shows you. Where liability can't be excluded but can be limited, our total liability to you for any claim arising from these terms or the service is limited to the amount you paid us in subscription fees in the 12 months before the claim arose.
We may add, change, or remove features over time, including optional automated features that go beyond plan comparison — any such feature is offered subject to these same terms unless we tell you otherwise when it launches. If we make a material change to these terms, we'll update the "last updated" date above. Continuing to use Grid Lens after a change means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
